Explore Ladakh: Experience Ladakh Back

Day 1
Delhi - Leh arrival

Arrive at the Kushok Bakula Airport of Leh. Transfer to Hotel/guest house in Leh. Complete rest for acclimatization for the rest of the day. O/N at guesthouse/hotel.

Day 2
Leh - Shanti Stupa - Namgial Tsemo - Leh Palace

Late morning the vehicle will be there at the hotel/guest house to take you for a half day sightseeing around Leh to Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace and the Tsemo Gonpa, a view point. Rest of the day left to yourselves to explore the nukes and corners of the market of Leh. O/N at hotel/guest house.

Day 3
Shey - Thiksey - Hemis

Early in the morning drive on the Leh-Manali Highway to visit the Shey Palace , Thiksey and the Hemis monasteries. Thiksey monastery, famous for its architectural similarities with the Potala palace of Lhasa . The monastery covers an entire mountain ridge. The Hemis monastery is the biggest and the most important of its type. O/N at hotel/guest house.

Sham valley 3 days trek begins. Physical Challenge: Easy

Day: 4
Leh – Likir – Yangthang (4-5hrs)

We start the day early in the morning from the Leh. It is 2 hours drive from Leh to Likir following the Indus River . After visiting the famous Likir monastery we begin our trek below a mountain nearby the monastery. The trail goes steadily upwards till you get to
Chagatse La (3630m). Across the pass is the village of Yangthang where you spend the night camping next to the stream.

Day: 5
Yangthang – Hemis Shukpachan Via Rizong (6-7 hrs)

Today our trek is pretty long. We walk alongside the river and trees amidst the gorge to the Rizong monastery. It is worth visiting Rizong Monastery, which is an isolated at the back of a natural amphitheatre and has three main rooms to visit, two with large Buddhas and third with a large stupa. After visiting the gompa, we ascend gradually to the Shushut pass 4000 m. From the pass we have a view of Hemis Shukpachan as well as surrounding peaks. An easy descent towards our camp at Hemis Shukpachan takes a couple of hours. It is one of the major villages of Sham, and the name of the village is derived from the conifers (shukpa= cedar or juniper). Camp overnight at the village.

Day: 6
Hemis Shukpachan – Tingmosgam (4 hrs)

From Hemis Shukpachan we go onto a flat ground as far as ill-defined pass alongside the Chortens (stupas). A steep descent will lead us to the right side of the mountains and climb steadily on the slope towards the Mebtak La 3720 m. After taking short rest and enjoying the view from the pass, we head down to the village of Ang. From Ang, we head towards the south on the dusty jeep road to the village of Tingmosgam . Tingmosgam is well famed for its monastery, and is perhaps the most affluent village in the sham valley for its apricots, apples, nuts and beautiful houses. Camp overnight at the village.

Day: 7
Tingmosgam – Lamayuru (3 hrs)

After a night at Temisgam, we drive to Lamayuru. The famous monastery of Lamayuru(one of the oldest monasteries of Ladakh). Visit the Yurdung Gonpa(another name for the Lamayuru monastery), and enjoy the scenic view of the moon-land (landscape similar to that on moon). O/N at hotel/ guesthouse.

Day 8
Lamayuru - Alchi - Likir - Phyang - Leh

Early morning drive on Leh-Srinagar highway to Alchi Choskor(religious monument, oldest of its type in Ladakh). Visit the famous Alchi Choskor, built in the 11th century by Lama Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo, has fabulous paintings and architecture. Alchi monastery, the only monastery in Ladakh built on flat ground, well known for its peerless wall paintings Take a village walk and get down to the river Indus to spend some quiet time here. Enroute visit the Likir Monastery, a beautifully located monastery. After this drive on towards Leh, enroute visit the Phyang Monastery a Red Hat Sect monastery with a great history and perched on a hilltop. Reach Leh by evening and rest as you are going to start early in the morning for the world’s highest motorable road to the Nubra Valley. O/N at guesthouse/hotel.
Nubra Valley (2 nights -3 days) In this tour you will be able to see the world highest road (Khardong la 18,380 ft), beautiful monasteries, villages, sand dunes of Hunder village, water falls, the hot springs of Panamik village and the famous double humped Camels, Which are only found in Central Asia and Nubra Valley.

Day 9
Leh - Diskit - Hunder (118 km / total time 7-8 hrs)

Early in the morning leave for Diskit, the capital of Nubra via the world highest motorable road. A steep drive to the Khardong La ( Khardong Pass ). On reaching the top, a spectacular view of the mountain ranges on either sides welcome you. Lunch stop at the first village after the pass, called Khardong village. A quiet and a scenic village. Lunch with the Karakoram Range ! Drive on to reach Diskit town and then to Hunder village (6-7 km). Visit the small monastery here and spend time at the glorious sand dunes of Hunder. Interested ones can ride the double humped camels too. O/N hotel/Camp/Guesthouse at Hunder.

Day 10
Hunder - Diskit - Sumoor

An easy day for a change! Late in the morning drive towards Diskit and visit the Diskit monastery (the oldest, and the prominent monastery of Nubra) and then drive through the Nubra valley to get a feel of the new area, towards Sumoor Village on the other side of the river Shayok and Nubra . Drive on to reach the hot water springs at Panamik Village . Interested ones can opt for a bath here. Drive back towards Sumoor village to reach the camp/guesthouse. This village is perfect for an evening quiet walk. O/N at camp/guesthouse/hotel at Sumoor.

Day 11
Sumoor - Leh

Early morning visit the famous Samstangling monastery, (132 year old, founded by Lama Tsultim Nima). Later trace back the road that you came from, to reach Leh, by late afternoon. Rest for the day, and do sleep early as you are going to start early in the morning the next day. O/N hotel/guesthouse/camp.

Pangong Lake (1 night 2 days)
The Pangong Lake is 160 km from Leh, with spectacular views, colorful mountains and the Changla pass. The scenic view of colourful mountains throughout the journey makes your trip memorable.
The drive begins with the spectacular view of Thiksey monastery, famous for its architectural similarities with the Potala palace of Lhasa . The monastery covers an entire hill. Beyond this village, you will drive towards the Changla pass, leaving the Leh Manali road on your right hand side. The long easy ascent takes you to Changla pass through it's winding roads passing through Sakti Village . Stop at the Changla Pass for a quick photograph session and drive down to the village of Tangtse , where you can relax for a cup of tea. Leaving Tangtse for Pangong you pass through few small villages of Changthang and finally you can have a sudden view of the lake. The Pangong Lake view is dramatic, surrounded by colorful mountains and its reflection makes the lake beautiful. The color of the lake changes into different color throughout the day. The division of lake between India and China makes it different than the other Lake . Therefore you are not allowed to go beyond a certain point.

Day 12
Leh - Pangong Lake

Early morning drive towards the Pangong Lake . Enjoy pack lunch beside the lake and move towards the Pangong Resort. Spend time besides the beautiful lake and take walks near it. O/N at Pangong Resort.

Day 13
Pangong Lake - Leh

Late in the morning drive back to Leh by the same road you traveled yesterday. Reach Leh and spend the rest of the day shopping and for relaxing with the sweet memories of Ladakh, calling you and your family again and again. O/N at guest house/hotel.

Day 14
Leh - Delhi departure

Early morning the vehicle will transfer you to the airport.
