Inciting a thought through an exciting insight into the lives of Ladakhis.
Ladakh’s capital Leh, where everyone lands when they come to Ladakh, is
home to a number of peoples. Migration from villages and hamlets spread
over this region of the Himalayas is mostly due to tourism. In spite of
the migration from these various parts, Leh is not a representative
culture of Ladakh.
Our intention is to allow for an experience of their life.
Our Plan
We will live with a traditional family in a village, for one week.
- The village is approximately a 5 hour drive to the South-West of Leh, beside the Indus, at a height of (approx)10,300 ft .
- The
village has a 17th century Monastery which is built around an existing
cave. It is used as the assembly hall of the monastery today.
We will involve ourselves with the daily activities of the village folk.
- Taking care of the cattle,
- Helping in the fields,
- Apricot harvesting,
- Processing of dry fruits and many others.
We will do a short moderate trek.
- We
will do a 3 – 4 day trek to a sacred lake situated at a height of
15,800 ft. We will be following the cattle route. We purposely decided
not to take the regular tourist route to give you a more scenic
experience. We will carry utensils and have a cook and a guide
accompany us to help. All the way we will have a yak/dzo carrying our
luggage and our stay will be camping in villages.
